In my fevered vegan fantasies I've often contemplated the question: "If I could snap my fingers and transform one person in the world into a passionate, committed vegan, who would I choose?"
My answer is always Oprah. Do you know anyone else with a more devoted, adoring audience just ready to do her bidding? Nope.
Well, according to Oprah's own website she will be following a vegan diet for the next three weeks on what she is calling The 21 Day Cleanse.
So....she's not really going vegan (I doubt she will be chucking her cherished Louboutins any time soon) but she is following a vegan diet as a means of beginning a total body makeover.
While I wish they would mention the cruelty free benefits of a vegan lifetsyle and diet as well as the huge health beneftis, this is definitely a start.
I just know Oprah is going to feel healthier, better, fitter and happier after completing her 21 day program and then she will command her loyal legions to follow her vegan commands!

She's already on the right track. In her blog she wrote:
"How can you say you're trying to spiritually evolve, without even a thought about what happens to the animals whose lives are sacrificed in the name of gluttony?"
"So this 21-day cleanse gives me a chance to think about it differently and see what my attachments are to certain kinds of foods—and what I'm willing to do to change." [...]
"So this first day wasn't hard at all."

and then today she wrote:
"Wow, wow, wow! I never imagined meatless meals could be so satisfying. I had been focused on what I had to give up—sugar, gluten, alcohol, meat, chicken, fish, eggs, cheese. 'What's left?' I thought. Apparently a lot. I can honestly say every meal was a surprise and a delight, beginning with breakfast—strawberry rhubarb wheat-free crepes."

Who knows if it will last or not, but either way she's inspiring people to try veganism a bit and to at the very least cut back on their meat consumption.
Yes! I actually need to update my blog. After I read that I realized that her 21 day vegan diet wasn't solely motivated by health reasons. So double yay!
