Living the Revolution: Tip # 1
Don’t ever shut up! Talk talk talk! Don’t ever quit espousing the benefits of veganism, whether it is environmental, animal rights, health benefits, spiritual beliefs, whatever! Plaster that gorgeous vegan smile on your face and light up the world with your infectious vegan joy! Let everyone know where they can find vegan ice-cream, or point them to your favorite vegan cooking blog the next time they need a recipe idea. Don’t be afraid to correct their mistakes, either. If they mention how much better free range chickens are treated, set them straight and let them know the truth! If they start talking about the health benefits of fish point out the toxic reality. Just remember to do it in an upbeat, confident, and non-confrontational way. Chances are you weren’t always a vegan, so maybe you thought the same things they did. Don’t judge them; we are all headed down the same path. But don’t back down either. If your office is ordering lunch and someone suggests getting chicken because ‘everyone likes chicken’ point out that you definitely don’t like chicken and the chickens probably don’t enjoy being made into sandwiches either! Another thing: ask omnis questions! How many times do you get asked by an incredulous omnivore upon finding out that you are a vegan: “Where do you get your protein? Your vitamins?” Make sure to turn those questions around. I bet they won’t know where they are getting their fiber or their vitamin A from! As a Vegan you are mouthpiece for the entire revolution, you have the ability to inspire people and to change lives. Don’t be afraid to speak out!
