Re-think
Wait! Hold the gorgeous vegan phone! Oprah does indeed mention cruelty to animals as being a reason for her vegan endeavours. This is truly, absolutely amazing. Can you even imagine the reach that Oprah has? The amount of people that are introduced to ideas by her thoughts and her actions? This is fantastic! Let's not waste this opportunity! Go here and tell Oprah now about your vegan life and thank her for bringing this issue to light. YAY!

Oprah is going vegan!
In my fevered vegan fantasies I've often contemplated the question: "If I could snap my fingers and transform one person in the world into a passionate, committed vegan, who would I choose?"
My answer is always Oprah. Do you know anyone else with a more devoted, adoring audience just ready to do her bidding? Nope.
Well, according to Oprah's own website she will be following a vegan diet for the next three weeks on what she is calling The 21 Day Cleanse.
So....she's not really going vegan (I doubt she will be chucking her cherished Louboutins any time soon) but she is following a vegan diet as a means of beginning a total body makeover.
While I wish they would mention the cruelty free benefits of a vegan lifetsyle and diet as well as the huge health beneftis, this is definitely a start.
I just know Oprah is going to feel healthier, better, fitter and happier after completing her 21 day program and then she will command her loyal legions to follow her vegan commands!

I want!
I want to see this movie: America The Beautiful.
It explores the question of whether or not America is a nation with an unhealthy obsession on beauty, most specifically women's beauty.
My answer: YES!

Gender Apartheid, Class Struggle, Hypocrisy and Rage.
There is a great article in the NY Times today, that offers a glimpse into the lives of two young Saudi men as they try to navigate their culture's warped view of romance, honor, women and love. It is just a small glimpse, a tiny flash, of how absolutely masochistic, twisted and insiduous Saudi sociey is today. When calling your fiance on the telephone is something that has to be kept absolutely secret at all costs, or eating a meal in a restaurant with a man is cause to hide your face in shame, you know there is something seriously wrong.
There is a gender apartheid taking place on a brutal scale in Saudi Arabia and the US does absolutely nothing in response. Continuing to subsidize this society is perpetuating oppression, tyranny and subjugation and ultimately creating the terrorists that the US supposedly wants to stop. When will we break our oil addiction and stop turning a blind eye?

Living the Revolution: Tip # 1
Don’t ever shut up! Talk talk talk! Don’t ever quit espousing the benefits of veganism, whether it is environmental, animal rights, health benefits, spiritual beliefs, whatever! Plaster that gorgeous vegan smile on your face and light up the world with your infectious vegan joy! Let everyone know where they can find vegan ice-cream, or point them to your favorite vegan cooking blog the next time they need a recipe idea. Don’t be afraid to correct their mistakes, either. If they mention how much better free range chickens are treated, set them straight and let them know the truth! If they start talking about the health benefits of fish point out the toxic reality. Just remember to do it in an upbeat, confident, and non-confrontational way. Chances are you weren’t always a vegan, so maybe you thought the same things they did. Don’t judge them; we are all headed down the same path. But don’t back down either. If your office is ordering lunch and someone suggests getting chicken because ‘everyone likes chicken’ point out that you definitely don’t like chicken and the chickens probably don’t enjoy being made into sandwiches either! Another thing: ask omnis questions! How many times do you get asked by an incredulous omnivore upon finding out that you are a vegan: “Where do you get your protein? Your vitamins?” Make sure to turn those questions around. I bet they won’t know where they are getting their fiber or their vitamin A from! As a Vegan you are mouthpiece for the entire revolution, you have the ability to inspire people and to change lives. Don’t be afraid to speak out!

What's in a name?
Los Angeles man Michael Buday has legally won the right to take his wife Diana Bijon's last name upon their marriage.
And it only took 2 years, a sex discrimination lawsuit and a change in California state law! My, how far we've come.
